Schafers Fish Story

Schafer Fisheries, Inc., located in North Western Illinois, is the Midwest’s largest processor and wholesale/retail distributor of fresh fish and frozen seafood.

A family owned business since 1954, we purchase and process fresh fish caught by over 100 commercial fishermen within a 1,000 mile radius. Our distribution reaches from California to Maine and all points in between, as well as internationally, thanks to our flash freeze process.

The retail store located in Fulton, Illinois is open 7 days a week. In June of 2004, our new processing facility was opened, located in Thomson, Illinois. The new facility has opened us up to an additional 30,000 sq. ft. of production. In addition, we have collection facilities in Southeastern Iowa, Wisconsin and Kentucky.

We own and operate a fleet of trucks. This allows us to control our freight cost as well, allowing for the freshest possible product at a fair market value.

In 2002, we began production of Schafer’s Liquid Fish (now known as SF Organics) as a type of plant fertilizer created from fish offal. In addition to reducing the production facility’s waste product, SF Organics is 100% environmentally friendly.
